♥Example: I went grocery shopping the other night at 3am, and ended up chatting with someone about a car accident he’d seen that changed his life, and also about the fact that he grows his hair out to donate it to Locks of Love(they make wigs for kids with cancer and long-term medical hair loss), which I also do!♥So do things like this ever happen to you?

It actually happens to me quite often. Especially when I go to shows. The guy that I’m now seeing was actually opening for a musician that I went to support, and because I gave him a chance, and talked to a complete stranger, we’ve gotten to know a lot about each other’s lives. It’s always interesting to connect with someone that you never would have even had a chance to talk to, except you both happened to be in the same place at the same time.

Yes! I love meeting new people. It’s odd but conversations with strangers are most of the time even better than conversations with people you’ve known for years!
Perfect strangers, yes!

Brief conversations while out shopping are pretty common–I don’t share personal info with stranges tho.

I’m growing my hair out for Locks of Love too! It’ll be cut by April of next year, I think!
Well, no not in real life… but on the internet, yes! I have chatted with quite a few great people that I hit it off with immediately…

No, I normally end up sitting next to the guy who doesn’t have any teeth and wants to tell me all the exciting adventures that can be had when out hunting deer.
I want to go grocery shopping with you girl!

Very often, half due to my initiating it, and half due to theirs. We are social creatures. And some of us are trusting/naive enough to go with it. I say more power to us! Keeps life interesting, don’t you think?

that’s never happened to me before but i think it would be great if it did. just going on with your normal life and then *bam.* it would certainly spice up your life if even just for a few minutes.

It happens a lot. A friend of mine told me I look very approachable, so maybe that explains random strangers asking for directions and then winding up talking to me on the bus or on the street. But I enjoy it–we as people rarely connect with each other, even people we know very well. So I value just being able to make conversation with strangers (as long as they’re not selling anything or asking for personal information).
Even answering questions like yours like this is a way of connecting to other people we hardly even know. Here is a link to a site you may or may not already know but which I think you will enjoy: http://www.postsecret.com

All the time, but it isn’t weird. People tend to connect with complete strangers and tell them weird things because you know that it is likely that you won’t see them again. That is also why people see therapists instead of telling close friends what’s going on in their lives. It doesn’t seem so embarrasing to tell a stranger something that you have done. It’s just easier, people tend to think that they are being judged by a friend, if you tell something to them. With a stranger, you don’t have to be worried of being judged. Even if you are being judged, it won’t matter, because you may not ever see them again.

When I was a salesman it was a lot. A couple that were elderly always asked how my son was doing. I would give them details of his life about how he struggled with Asthma and what sports he liked and they just loved to hear about him. Every time I stopped there they would want to hear more about him. I found out later that they never had children because they couldn’t and they never adopted either. They bought my son gifts and cards and loved him even though they never met him. I brought him there one of the days that I was off and they melted over him. I felt so bad but they seemed to be content with their lives. I have never taken my son for granted but they just reinforced my love for my son. Every second is precious. Even now that he is 12. Sorry this was so long.

I don’t let my hair grow that long but I talk to perfect strangers all the time to learn what the world has to say. Anyone who doesn’t talk to strangers is shortsighted and slightly dim witted as to what the truth is. I prefer to talk in lobbies though. At 3AM in the grocery store that must have been quite a coincidence.
