if youre going to put a ribbon on your car/truck for the troops, shouldnt you have sacrficed something?

25 May

the troops and their families make the sacrifices, and Americans say thanks with a sticker, going about their lives day to day without any changes to their daily routine,,,,largely because US leadership has granted tax cuts instead of requesting the public to show support by making sacrifices.

sure there are those who actually do make an effort and do volunteer work, or donate their time or something of equal importance…..but those people are 1 in every 10000 at best.

im not asking for your sacrifice because i know your out there. im asking why as a nation are we so eager to wage war and ignore our responsiblity to those who make the real sacrifices?

Bush & Cheney haven’t…so why do they have that huge red ribbon on the door of the White House?

Like what, for instance? At least some people have a ribbon. Neo-libs say they support the troops but not the war and then refuse to fund the troops to do the job they need to do and put their lives at greater risk. Where’s the support in that? Where’s the sacrifice?

I see your point, but I also think most people honestly wish there was more they could do. But, I know when I see all the bumper stickers and such, I’m happy for the support. My father never got anything like that when he was in Vietnam.

no, your question makes me think you dont know what it means to be in the military or sacrifice like I have. i grew up in the milltary, and i’m in ROTC now to be in it. and let me tell you, theyre fighting and dying to give people the right to just put a ribbon on their vehicle. the military if filled with volunteers who know what it means to fight so others can do whatever they want.

We as a nation aren’t eager to wage war. Those in charge of this administration are/were.

People generally don’t want to be bothered. I know that is horrible, but all a person can really ask for is a showing of support. The common man is just trying to live their life, not make sacrifices.

When someone signs up to become a troop then they go into it, in theory, with intention to make a sacrifice for their country if need be. They know this, their families know this.

Every year several different organisations hold awards for the unsung heroes, like brave children who have overcome or are still suffering a terrible illnesses, Heroes who have gone way out on a limb to save other people, for carers and many others, the seach will be on in every newspaper and TV station early on in the New Year.Yes in the UK we do care!

Soldiers are right at this very moment are fighting and dying to give YOU the right to live you life how you see fit, for you to be able to travel, for freedom of speech, in fact for you to keep all that you take for granted.

In the UK we are all buying wrist bands which have “Help for the Heroes” there is a fee and postage to pay but you can also make a donation at the same time, Both my partner and my self wear them with pride all the time, you can check out the site by visiting http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk. All the money raised goes to helping the wounded heros.

We are proud of our solders and the sacrifices they make abroad, they are protecting YOU at home as well as abroad

No one is eager to wage war, but unfortunately, sometimes you have to act first

Many people may want to sacrifice, but may not have the opportunity due to age, disabilities, family responsibilities….whatever. By displaying a ribbon on their vehicle people are showing a sign of respect to our servicemembers and we should appreciate that. By using symbols such as a ribbon, at least they are essentially saying that their mind is with the military.

What type of sacrifice are you referring to anyway. I have served two tours in Iraq, and was at Hurricane Katrina clean up efforts and I can tell you that the average citizen — especially at Katrina try very hard to help out others. The number of volunteers there were amazing. People welcoming us back when returning from Iraq has been awesome. I think that the American public has come a long way since Vietnam, and we should be thankful for it…..not complain when people try to show support by displaying a ribbon……many Americans do make real sacrifices….much more than 1 in 10,000.

Maybe you should follow your own advice and make a sacrifice yourself.

Otherwise you are just another hypocrite.

as a military family i love to see bumper stickers on others cars….. makes me feel like there are people that do appriciate the things that my husband does and the fact that we give up so much for those people to have the right to have those bumper stickers

Hmm, you are criticizing those who are giving a nonverbal show of support for the burden and sacrifices of our troops overseas? I don’t get why that is a problem for you. I happen to have a desert camo ribbon, a yellow ribbon, a proud parent of a United States Marine sticker, and a blue star flag ribbon on my car. In a sense I think I have a right to have those items on my car since my son won’t be home for Christmas due to his second tour of duty in Iraq. Even those who don’t even know someone involved in the war and display ribbons are appreciated by the military, their friends, and their families. It helps us to know that others are keeping our troops in their thoughts and prayers. Yes, they go about their business as usual but shouldn’t that be a comfort for our troops knowing we are living normal lives while they are away? In an ideal world maybe everyone would back up their shows of support with their own sacrifices, but don’t we all know this isn’t an ideal world? Possibly your own time would be better spent doing something a little more constructive than writing up a thinly disguised put down of our government. If you aren’t happy with the way things are being done, come out and say it directly and do something that will really make a difference.

Those stickers show a great respect for our military men and women. It is the ones without the stickers that I question.
