Please Give You Opinion Regarding No Greencard No Car?

This 22 year old woman was here since she was 7 years old she has no legal status, has 2 kids and recently was diagnosed with breast and cervical cancer.
She entered a raffle at a spanish radio station .
The price was a 1999 Corvet donated from a famous Mexican/American singer.
The only rule was to be present at time of drawing.
Well she won the car but the radio station lawyer told her tha t if she claim her price He will call U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement to get her deported.
The radio station is the one that organized the “famous” march of people last year.
In a separate incident this month,Toys R Us agreed to award a chinese american infant born in New York a 25,000 prize in a New Year’s baby contest after the company was criticized for disqualifying the girl because her mother was (is) an illegal immigrant from china.
Do you think the radio station should give this poor woman (now she is in hiding because she is afraid), the car she won?

  2. Common Sense

Of course, however many contests have a stipulation, same as many jobs that ou need to be a legal resident of a country to win a prize offered in a contest. Its terrible that her situation is so poor and for that I am sorry, but if there was no rule to say she needed to be a U.S.Citizen, then yes it is very wrong, and wheter she can drive it or not, the car should be hers. But small print is a nightmare.

Yes it’s her’s. They should give her the car or give her the money. They are just trying to jew out of their deal with the public by giving it to an illegal and then welching on the deal.
In regards to licenses I’d like to say: no license – NO INSURANCE.

Well, that is quite the double standard. I feel that both people should get nothing until they get their status changed from illegal to legal. period. For me to be here, I have to pay taxes. If I don’t pay my taxes, I go to jail. So why is it okay for people to come from where ever the hell they want – Europe, Africa, China, Cambodia, Mexico, Brazil, WHERE EVER – and not have the same obligations as the people who are legal and have their **** together. Same goes for drivers licenses. No legal status, no privilges. This is how it’s done in other countries as well … follow the rules and you won’t get thrown out of the game!

Of course, it is rightfully hers.
If the only rulewas to be present at the time of the prize giving, the car is HERS.

Sorry, not entitled. We have rules that Illegals don’t want to adhere to. This is the greater problem. You cannot have it any way that it seems right to you when you haven’t bothered to follow the laws of that country.

First let me say, the car belongs to the women. (She can sell it or something!) Second you dont need a license to get car insurance! Another thing White people are immigrants TOO! This land belonged to NATIVE Americans and was Mexico Territory. P.S I’m a Born and Raised in California, an American. But I have common sense to know the car should be awarded to the women, and the station should be sued for racism.

  10. Make It Right

Oh my gosh that is so sad. This poor lady came over here when she was 7 years old. I assume she came with her parents and being that she was just a 7 year old little girl she did not know what an illegal immigrant even was. She has been living here almost her whole life and yes….she is now an illegal immigrant and I am sure she is aware of what that is but I think that since she has been here since being a little girl that should be taken into consideration. Its not easy to just travel across the united states to go back to your home country. That costs money which I am sure she does not have a whole lot of. They should give her the car she won and I don’t thnk that they had the right to threaten to turn her over to customs.

I’m fairly sure the official rules of the raffle included a requirement that the winner needs to be a legal resident of the United States to qualify for the win. I’ve seen this clause in many raffles’ rules. So the station is correct in following its own legal papers. I feel sorry for the lady but she’s not the only one in the world having cancer. Some of my relatives do, too, and they don’t do anything illegal.

Anyone who pays taxes should be able to win the prize, if she is scared to claim it then let someone else have it. He can’t get her deported just for not claiming a prize also she has a right to be here., if she has a Id number then tell her to claim her car and be on with it. **** what the lawyer said call a few lawyers and also call ur government to find out what can be done. Good luck

  14. ?

Well considering in that whole message you didn’t write that she payed taxes or tried to become a citizen so no, she shouldn’t be entitled to anything for free. She has already gotten enough free stuff from us. Go home.

No, She is illegeal, she took it away from someone who earned it. By the way before you say anything, I am a LEGAL IMMIGRANT who came here LEGALLY. I paid for my entry into America i din’t just get to cross a river and say I belong here. Plus she is Mexican so she woun’t get insurance anyways.

Let them call Immigration & Customs, with the way things are today, they’ll probably put her on welfare, give her a free drivers license and social security benefits!

Well you see the issue to many is obeying the law as it was supposed to be followed….which her parents did not do, which is now rebounding on their child. You could look at the contest as being set up for the citizens and not for those here illegally.
It is sad that disobeying the laws of a country has consequences…but that is what is occurring….it has just been delayed. And it is always the innocent that get hurt. It is also the fault of those who should have enforced the laws that were broken ….because now more people are being hurt all the time.By ignoring the situation, they have just made it worse.
We can feel bad about the circumstances, but it doesn’t necessarily make it o.k.
No sure exactly why the company refused to follow thru….may be because they knew she didn’t have a legitimate driver’s license?
That would probably make them liable if she drove the car? Just guessing. It would also be bad publicity for the company that an illegal won it. You see….legally, she doesn’t belong in the country.
