Selling / Donating My Car – I need to but it’s hard to let go!?

07 Jun

Since August 2008, my 93 Plymouth Acclaim has been sitting in my apartment parking lot. According to the mechanics, I need a new transmission and work on the cooling system (estimated at $2000).

Obviously, it’s not worth it to repair, but it’s really hard for me to let it go because the engine runs extremely well and I did have many repairs done prior to these major problems. Last time I checked I could get $50 bucks for it from “junkmycar.com”… and I doubt anyone would want to buy my car around town. So I’m thinking about donating it, but only if I can find a 100% reputable charity AND one that would want my car even in it’s condition. I’m a college student with lots of bills to pay so if I could get a couple hundred bucks for it somewhere I’d choose that option, otherwise I’d rather donate it…

Can anyone advise me on this? Thanks!!

Why would anyone give you couple hundred when it cost more to fix than it’s worth. I would not take your car if it was free. A 1993 Plymouth Acclaim has an average wholesale value of $300 and they actually move.

look around for a highschool with an auto shop, they accept donated cars and in return, you get a tax deductable recipt.
