We donated a car in 2004, but didn’t need it for our tax return last year, because no taxes were owed. This year some tax is owed and we would like to take it as a charitable donation. Is it okay to do it a year later? Thanks 
Just one more thing — both of you said I should amend the 2004 return, but will that benefit me on the 2005 return?

In 2004, my husband donated a car but didn’t write it off because our standard deduction was higher. This year our standard deductions are lower (due mostly to the fact that we bought a house). Can we write off that donation on this year’s taxes?
