If you want to donate a car to charity you might find that it isn’t as simple as it once was. This is down to new laws governing car donation. The new rules have come into force to regulate car donations and to stop people from using loopholes in the tax system to commit fraud and tax evasion. Untill recently, if I were to donate my car to charity, I could do so easily and claim a certain tax break on my return with little or no problem. Major charities are now worried about the new rules governing car donation and expect them to seriously impact their income from donations. The sale of these donated cars counts as a large part of the annual income of major charities such as Goodwill Industries and The American Red Cross. Those that donate used cars have also been able to claim tax breaks on the value of the car. This is completely legal and was initiated by the government to actively encourage people to donate to charities. However, the government is now tightening up the rules governing these donations, asking that you record much more information.

The primary worry for some charities is that this will cause a decline in the amount of cars donated to them. Although many people donate a car through simple generosity, the tax benefits assosiated with auto donation have always provided them with an additional reason to donate in this manner. As a result of these new rules, combined with the economic crisis, charities are seeing a drop in the number of car donations and in charitable donations on the whole. Most charities count on sizable contributions like this and with fewer people making large contributions, the charities, and those they work to benefit, will surely suffer as a result.

The Ford Motor Co. is preparing another version of its famous Mustang pony car to appear more feminine than before. The Mustang is now painted pink to attract more women and at the same time so as to also serve a much worthy cause – help the campaign in fighting breast cancer.

This summer, Ford intends to offer a “Warriors in Pink” trim package for the sports car to attract new buyers to the Mustang nameplate and help raise money for breast cancer research. Ford Mustang sales have slipped in the recent months. This is why the automaker is improving its campaign to increase the sales of its pony car.

“One of the reasons for this strategy is to keep the buzz up as high as possible,” said Ford spokesman Jim Cain, who noted that the Mustang continues to dominate its segment in the domestic market. In fact, he said Mustang’s share of the U.S. sporty coupe market has climbed to more than 50 percent even as its sales have slipped.

The automaker said that details are still being ironed out however the new version is expected to feature pink stripes on the outside and pink contrast stitching inside. The pony car package is expected to offer a V-6 engine but the purchasers can choose either a hardtop or a convertible. A couple of colors will be offered by the automaker but pink is not one of them.

Ford will be manufacturing the Mustangs to order. Some of the profits will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The foundation is the world’s biggest and most progressive network of breast cancer survivors and activists. It has local affiliates in 125 cities and communities. The foundation also has a great number of advocates at the local, state, and federal level.

Breast cancer is a serious threat in today’s time. In the United States, the rate of new cases of breast cancer has increased by a little over one percent annually starting from the 1940s. During 1990s, the rate of new cases of the malady has leveled off. The recent statistics shows a steep rate of decline in new cases in 2003. However, in 2007 alone, an estimated 178,480 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in the US. The figures are now getting more serious that there is already a need to double the efforts and initiate rigorous campaigns to educate the people and to prevent breast cancer at the earliest time. This is the reason why Ford is offering a helping hand.

The dilemma now of the automaker is the fact that not everyone is amenable to the idea of a Ford Mustang being marketed at women. Analyst Erich Merkle of IRN Inc. which is based in Grand Rapids said that the Ford Mustang is an iconic brand that is based on a special mix of speed and testosterone. He said Ford should not mess with success. “Is Mustang going to be a stallion or a gelding?” Merkle quipped. “The cause is admirable, but the Mustang isn’t the right choice.” Merkle suggested Ford use another vehicle for the cause-oriented program.

Nevertheless, other enthusiasts are showing their support and are now welcoming the move of the automaker. “I think it’s a great idea. It’s going to add a little class to the car and a little feminine touch,” said Audrey Zavodsky of New Boston, who races Mustangs professionally in the Grand Am Coni Series and teaches high-performance driving at the Bondurant Racing School. “A lot of women are buying Mustangs, and I think this is going to appeal to even more women.”

At least two other special edition Mustangs are scheduled for release later year, including a new, limited edition Mustang Bullitt. For the 2006 and 2007 model years, the Pony Package option is offered with the V6 model. The Mustang option includes Bullitt-style wheels, a unique grille design with fog lamps, bigger tires, upgraded suspension, distinctive door striping and emblems, rear deck spoiler and other quality parts likened to the Volvo CV joint.

The well known, six-women crew, Chopper Chicks, built another one-of-a-kind chopper donated by Biker’s Choice, the Today Show Chopper, at the Rockefeller Center in New York City on July 21, 2007. The event was broadcast live on national TV on the Today Show in front of a local audience of fans and supporters.

The Today Show chopper is now up for grabs to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Club of Broward County, Fla.

Anyone can submit a bid during the five month long auction. The highest bidder will be announced at the annual biker bash celebration, Black Leather Event, at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino resort in Hollywood, Fla. in December. In the mean time the chopper will be on display at the Sturgis Bike Week, the Daytona Beach Biketoberfest, and the Fort Lauderdale Bike Week.

Previous charity chopper builds include the Pink Ribbon Chopper at the Daytona Beach, Fla. Bike Week in February 2007, and the Breast Cancer Awareness Chopper at the Fat Fest in August 2006 in Gurnee, Ill.

All Chopper Chick crew builders are members of the International Master Bike Builders Association (IMBBA) and have extensive building experience. They were chosen for these charity projects due to their skills and professionalism. The crew consists of Athena Ransom, a.k.a. The Ford Customer Service Division (FCSD) intends to prove that an oil change could actually be able to battle breast cancer. This April, FCSD will deliver a unique event dubbed as the “Car Care for a Cause.” This is FCSD’s event and it is set to coincide with the National Car Care Month theme.

The Car Care for a Cause will include making a $100,000 donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure on behalf of its Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealerships’ service customers. FCSD will be joining with Ford’s Warrior in Pink campaign, which is also aimed at raising funds for the mentioned breast cancer research supporting organization. The Warrior in Pink campaign sells specially designed gears, items, and apparel that feature bold symbols of unity, cause and harnessing power to educate the populace about the deadly breast cancer.

FCSD chose April, the National Car Care Month, for its promotion because it is one of the busiest times of the year for vehicle service. “More people coming in to care for their vehicle means more people exposed to Komen’s important messages, including steps to early detection,” said Telisa Roberson-Yancy, the marketing manager of Owner Loyalty & Communications.

Aside from helping in the fight against breast cancer, Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealership services will also be giving rewards to customers including no payments and interest-free financing for products and services, spa gift cards and free TripTunes car stereo connectors. The oil change reminder stickers, bearing the Susan G. Komen for the Cure logo, are just one of the strategies employed so as to promote awareness about breast cancer concerns and to bolster the worthwhile cause.

“Even something so small can make a big difference,” said Cindy Schneible, the vice president of resource development for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization. In April, radio spots will air the hit single “I Run for Life” sang by Grammy Award-winning singer Melissa Ethridge, herself a breast cancer survivor. Ethridge produced the song for Ford’s breast cancer campaign.

“For the past 25 years, Susan G. Komen for the Cure has been on a mission to end breast cancer forever,” Schneible said. “Programs such as Car Care for a Cause are an integral part of that mission, helping us reach millions of consumers with life-saving breast health messages and raising funds that support breast cancer research and community outreach programs.”

Darryl Hazel, the president for the Ford Customer Service Division, and the senior vice president of the Ford Motor Company said, “This program is an exciting new opportunity for our customers to join us in the battle against breast cancer and take care of their vehicles at the same time. FCSD is proud to provide a new means to support all of the women, men and children affected by breast cancer and contribute to Ford Motor Company’s longstanding relationship with the Komen organization.”

“Our Car Care for a Cause program gives Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealers the opportunity to provide yet another reason for current and new customers to come into the dealership for great service while supporting a worthy cause. There is no better time to come to the dealership for service,” said Mike Rosingana, the FCSD advertising manager. “We’re encouraging our dealers to make this a really dynamic, event and show their customers how much Ford cares about its communities.”
