Donating My Car (to a Veterans Charity) what to expect?

6.29.2010 (tuesday)

I’m moving out of state for school and i won’t be needing a car so i decided to donate it to The National Veterans Service Fund Vehicle Donation Program.

They are scheduled to pick up the car on thursday.
I already know that i have to surrender my plates (i’ll do that tomorrow) to the MVC
and i know that i have to give the car title to the tow company:

1. Do i have to sign over the title or leave it blank?
2. Am i supposed to get any paperwork from the charity as proof that the car was donated?
I read that they send you info once the car has been sold.
3. Is there anything else i should know/expect during this process?

Which is better a $2,000 cash sale of an older vehicle or a $2,000 tax deduction for donating it?

I bought a new SUV last week but I did not trade in my older SUV. I listed for sale but now I’m thinking maybe I should donate it. The Blue Book Value is about $2,700 but there about $700 in break repairs needed. So I listed it for $2,000 in Auto Trader. Would it be better to donate it to charity for the deduction?

Donating Plasma, good or bad for your health later?

I’m considering donating plasma, but I will probly be told no anyway becuase I got pierced in Jan (its totally healthy but it hasn’t been a year yet) & I really don’t eat as healthy as I sould, which apperently can effect the plasma’s consistancy. Well I told my gram (I live with her, I’m 18 & about to graduate high school & I am currently in college) that I already kinda made my mind up about it & I might need some help getting to the donation place (the reason I want the money from donating is to help me get a car). Well I figured she wouldn’t like the idea (she is a retired RN) but I didn’t think it would be becuase she did it when she was younger. Now her doctor is telling her that she never should have done it. She won’t explan wha the health problems have been for her becuase of it, but what could they be? Has anyone had any bad expercies donating plasma or bad health later in life becuase of donating?

Selling / Donating My Car – I need to but it’s hard to let go!?

Since August 2008, my 93 Plymouth Acclaim has been sitting in my apartment parking lot. According to the mechanics, I need a new transmission and work on the cooling system (estimated at $2000).

Obviously, it’s not worth it to repair, but it’s really hard for me to let it go because the engine runs extremely well and I did have many repairs done prior to these major problems. Last time I checked I could get $50 bucks for it from “junkmycar.com”… and I doubt anyone would want to buy my car around town. So I’m thinking about donating it, but only if I can find a 100% reputable charity AND one that would want my car even in it’s condition. I’m a college student with lots of bills to pay so if I could get a couple hundred bucks for it somewhere I’d choose that option, otherwise I’d rather donate it…

Can anyone advise me on this? Thanks!!

Tax Receipt for donating a car…?

I was considering donating my car but I’m not sure how the tax receipt works. It promises a $500 dollar tax receipt. Do you get a guaranteed $500 back or do they deduct $500 dollars from your taxable income so you are only really getting a few bucks back?

How would I go about donating blood without a spleen? What would I have to do?

I had my spleen taken out when it got ruptured in a car accident. I tried to donate plasma recently and they told me I couldn’t because of not having a spleen. I’m healthier now than before the accident, but I still can’t donate. Is there anything I can do to get verification that I can?

I used to be a good samaritan. I would give money to beggars, donate to charity, I’d help people jump start their cars, etc.

That attitude changed after the past election…after seeing millions of people vote for McCain and Obama’s wars, McCain and Obama’s bailouts, McCain and Obama’s trashing of the Constitution, McCain and Obama’s higher taxes, the upcoming economic collapse, etc.

Why help people when they just screwed me for the next 4 years with their vote?

What’s proper etiquette for donating to a charity instead of giving a gift?

My mother continues to give $50 in my name on my birthdays and Christmas to a charity I have nothing to do with. She sends a nice card with a copy of the letter she sent to the charity. Shouldn’t she be making all these donations to the charity I donate my money and time to? I don’t want to sound ungrateful but I don’t think it’s a gift unless she’s giving to my charity of choice. Comments?
