Build the Future in Johannesburg is in need of a truck or van to transport missionaries from their hotel to the work site, pick up donated items and drop them off, transport food for soup kitchen. Currently using the family car and it is taking alot of wear and tear running in and out of squatter camps all day long.

If an organization filed to become a non profit corporation in 2010, would a donor be eligible for a deduction for a car donation in 2009? Our ministry received a car donation in Dec 2009. We didn’t file to be recognized as a non-profit organization until January 2010. Would the donor of the car be able to still receive a deduction?

Whats the best organization to donate a car to? I’m looking for a place that uses the most of the donated product for a cause and and less for administrated and advertising purposes. Any suggestions of a good place to donate to would be much appreciated, thanks!

Look at this from the self-interest prespective not from being charitable. I am in need of money right now for personal reasons, so I am not asking this based on moral guideline. I want to know what makes more financial sense to me. If I give the car to non-profit, how do they value the car? How much tax credit do I get? I want to make the most money with the car, and please tell me the best way to get the most money.

Will it affect disability / other benefits if I start a nonprofit for paralyzed singles and donate to them?

I want to start a non-profit organization that will be 100% volunteers to raise money through fundraisers, grants, etc. With this money, I would like to select 1 (or more) paralyzed resident (based on their application) of my local community a year to help improve their quality of life. I hope to raise money for things like automobile modifications, wheelchair accessible bathroom, ramps, etc. I just don’t know if I do this, will it adversely affect the person receiving the “gift” of charity?

If I won a car but i want to donate it to charity or a non-profit would I be able to write the donation off. Would the taxes I have to pay on the car offset the write off deduction.
