Do elementary school teachers earn enough money to make a living?

30 May

I’m thinking about being an elementary school teacher, but so many teachers complain about not earning enough. Money doesn’t matter much to me. I don’t expect to own a BMW or anything fancy like that, but I am concerened.

As an elementary school teacher, would I earn enough to maybe get a used car, a nice house (Not a fancy mansion, but a nice house in a nice neighborhood), take a vacation overseas every now and then, and donate to charities? How about the benefits?

Just curious. Thanks.

Im the leader of an animal club at my school and I need some ideas?

04 May

What can we do as a club? we already volunteer at animal shelters and do the basics like donations, car wash, dog wash and stuff like that…

So what else is there to do?

examples like helping out endangered animals or something like that

I want to donate a car to someone on the condition they go to school. Is there a legal form I can do that?

04 May

I do not want to let them just borrow it due to possible legal issues it they are in an accident.

Psychology Grad School with low GPA, but very good reasons for it.?

23 Apr

Hi, I’m from Russia but I go to college in the US. After I graduated High School I’ve had a great multitude of health problems. First I broke my neck in a car accident, now I have fused vertebrae and a pinched nerve. Not paralyzed but can’t turn my neck and have very bad pains at times. Then right after recovering, little more than a year later, I was diagnosed with Lymphoma and had spent the next 10 months in chemo treatment and then recovering for sometime more. Being 22 years-old I didn’t want to wait any longer, so I went to college as soon as I was told I had no life threatening conditions anymore. Needless to say, my first year was disastrous. I have spent a few years basically in a hospital bed, so I had to re-learn how to study and be active and functional. Also there is something that is called chemo brain which is a post chemo condition that destroys a person’s cognitive function, memory ability to multi task, or concentrate. I was completely confused and depressed, and as a result I got a few F’s sprinkled between C’s and C+’s, which I can honestly say took ridiculous effort considering my condition, and mental state. I’m now a sophomore, my GPA this semester is 2.3 so far, compared to 1.2 last year. I’m fighting to stay in school since I have to get a 2.5 for a safety net. There is a good chance I will be able to change my F’s to W’s considering my physical state last year so my GPA wont be failing. I know I’m a smart person, or at least used to be (132 IQ), so as I recover I expect my GPA to get much better as well. So anyhow here are my questions:

1. Lets say my final GPA after 4 years will be around a 2.5-2.7. What are my chances of getting into psychology grad school considering I had a bad condition when my grades were bad, but my last two years are good?

2. What are some lower tier psych programs that don’t require a high GPA? Money is not an issue. Maybe some freestanding programs that care mostly about money but are still ok?

3.Do Psy.D programs accept people from lower-tier grad schools?

P.S.- I have heard about, but no real examples of, parents making donations to schools in exchange for accepting. My father is very wealthy( exactly why I want to go to grad school, so I don’t have to work for him). Is that an option or is it just a movie myth?

I will take anything, opinions, facts or experiences. I would prefer people with good knowledge, but ady advice is welcome.

I need help starting an Animal Welfare Club at my school.. Please Help Us!!?

20 Apr

Alright, I know the year is almost over, but I thought it would be a good idea to start up an Animal Welfare club for next year, and my friends and I would start raising funds this summer, to get the club off the ground.

But Im still a little stuck.. Here’s what I’ve come up with so far..

Fundraisers…
We could do carwashes, for $5 per car
Bake Sales (Cookies, Brownies, Mini-Cakes), 50cents for cookies & brownies (really big lol) and $2.00 for a cake
Ice cream sales, $1.00 for a bowl, 25cents for toppings
Candy Sales from Equal Exchange Free Trade. the prices are determined by the company, and part of the money goes to small farmers that would otherwise go out of business.
Home made dog treats, for maybe $1 for a bag of 5

And I put a little twist on it too : all the foods that we sell are vegetarian, and sometimes organic! (im vegetarian, and since the group supports animals, I thought it would be a fun little thing to add in. The equal exchange candies are all organic)

Volunteering..
Each week (hopefully), or each month, we will volunteer at a local no kill shelter, and local farms.

We would also have little programs that are open to the public, where we inform them of animal cruelty and mistreatment, large factory farms, puppy mills, KFC, things like that, and letting them know what they can do to help. and also take..

DONATIONS!
All the donations will go to either the no kill shelter, or to a larger organization like PETA.

And everytime we do a fundraiser, 30% of whatever we earner will go to a no-kill shelter. (We will try to donate to just one shelter)
We will also buy things on their wishlists, and are trying to find shelters that are the most in need (not enough room, running out of supplies, etc..)

But I think I need more help! Im gonna refer to PETA2’s site for more help, and I have already rounded up a few friends to help me out this summer.. But where do I go from here?

And also, if anyone can think of some good names, that’d be great! But im thinking of just keeping it as “Animal Welfare Club” or “Group”, because our school is kinda boring, and they dont really personalize names lol. (Art Club. Chess Club. Foods Club.) So boring!!
So.. basic questions:
Who do I talk to from here?
Where should car washes be held?
What are some other things we could do to volunteer?
What are some other, more effective fundraisers?

Do you think this is a good idea/ it will work?

Thanks in Advance!!
