What happens if your car is towed…?

19 May

What happens if my car is towed (it was parked in an area of snow plowing) and I don’t want to pay the fee’s. It’s a junker that I was just going to bring to the junkyard or donate anyway. The fee’s to pick it up aren’t worth the costs to get it back. Is that a crime of any kind? It can’t hurt my credit in any way, can it? Thanks.
it’s not the city, it’s our housing association. So, no ticket.

Can I buy parts of a car from a tow company, if I ordered the car to be towed?

07 May

I am a government employee. I had a car towed for violation of CVC 22669, abandoned vehicle. I saw a part of the car I wanted to buy. 30 days has passed, no one has claimed the car, and all the legal requirements have been met. The car is going to be junked by the towing company. Can I legally purchase the car part? And how about ethically? I didn’t tow it because I wanted the part, I towed it because it’s my job, I saw the part, and if no one claimed it, it would be sold or junked otherwise.

my car has been abandoned for several months in a city train parking lot and they towed the car away…?

01 May

I have been taking advantage of opened gate after certain hours of a day (mid night to 4 or 5 am) at the parking structure at the local city train facility. I have been leaving the car for couple of months and drive out (without paying the long term parking fee) and park the car back and leave the car for another serveral months.. and on… Now we are renting a house that I used to live there (I live in another state), I left the car at the parking structure for longer than usual. Now I was going to donate the car to a local charity and be done with that car (it is kind of old but drivable), I find my car nowhere at the garage. I think they towed the car as a “abandoned” car. What will happen to me if I just walk away and say nothing. Will they come and get me and charging lots of money? Should I call them and come clean? Will they take my car and let me walk away?

Should I just junk the car or should I have it towed in for repair?

18 Apr

I own a 2002 chevy citation that was stolen and then abandoned running in the middle of the street. There is a screw driver in the ignition and the car can not be shifted into gear. .

Towed Junk Car – Fees and Impound?

23 Mar

I was in the process of getting the title for my car so i could junk it. The problem is that it was towed today and now sits in an impound collecting a $50 a day charge. The state (ca) cannot get me a real title for 60 days so i cannot sign over the title to the tow company. So the car is going to sit there for 30 days then they (tow company) will sell it at auction. Whats going to happen to me as far as fees? Will the tow company come after me? Should i pay the current fines and have them tow it back to my house until i get the title?

I own a running junk car. It was towed. Can I sign title over to the tow company?

10 Mar

I have an old car with a wholesale value of, I’m sure, no more than a few hundred dollars. The car was towed 13 days ago. I don’t exactly want to let it sit at the impound yard until it gets sent to a lien sale (this can hurt my credit, yes?), and I certainly don’t want to pay the impound fees to get it out. My question is this:

Can I go the the tow company and just sign over the title, completely releasing my interest in the vehicle? If I do this, will the impound fees to date still need to be paid by me at some later time? Would the tow company even accept this or are they completely happy waiting to sell the car at a lien sale?
