I talked to the guy in charge of my car a week ago about my car and he says it may be a “total loss”. Just wondering if they can towed my car to the junk yard without notifying me.

I had my spleen taken out when it got ruptured in a car accident. I tried to donate plasma recently and they told me I couldn’t because of not having a spleen. I’m healthier now than before the accident, but I still can’t donate. Is there anything I can do to get verification that I can?

About a 5 years ago, I parked an ailing ‘93 Chevy Lumina in the back of my driveway in hopes of fixing up and donating. Since then, I have lost the title. I couldn’t even give the darn thing away to scrap shops without it. So there it sits, hogging parking space.
Yesterday, a fellow comes to my door and claims to live down the street (not that I don’t believe him, I don’t know all the neighbors) and said he’s seen the car there for some time and was wondering if I was interested in selling it.
I told him it’s all his if he was willing to put in some serious work on the power steering and brakes to make it road worthy again. It turns out he wants it for parts/scrap and he’s willing to take it without a title.
Here’s where I’m a little concerned. Of course I’m happy for anyone to come and haul this albatross from my driveway, but I’m wary about any possible issues down the road. I don’t want to receive a phone call from someone asking me to get my parted-out hull of a car from wherever and have to pay a rollback to haul it to the junkyard.
However, this might be my paranoia showing, as I’ve been told I’m a “what-if” type of guy.
What do you guys think? Should I let this fellow haul off this car that I’ve been wanting to junk for the past few years? If so, what if anything should I print out to have him sign upon taking the car besides “this car now belongs to you”?
He’s due to pick up the car at 0830 this morning (Friday, 5/7/10).
Is it legal to claim certain itemized deduction even without proven docs when its a CPA who’s doing it?

I always do my taxes and has always been honest with regards to amount of deductions that I claim. I also have a friend that I help in doing her taxes for free. This time she said that a CPA of her friend said that she could get more refund if this CPA will do it for her for a fee. So we agreed that I will do hers and she’ll also let the CPA do it so we could compare the difference. She did get $1000 refund more than what I calculated. Upon reviewing what the CPA did, I discovered that she added a total of $5K donations in cash and goods named to goodwill and a certain church even though my friend did not actually donated. On top of that she added a $4K of mileage expense in connection with her work, although she really doesn’t use her car because she’s a stay-in caregiver. My friend is single and always use standard deduction. Because of what the CPA did, she now itemized. I think its unlawful.
But that’s the point. How often and unlikely would the IRS audit one tax payer to discover one CPA who’s doing fraud in favor of their client? I still think that I should report the CPA, but then I’m afraid that I will loose my friend. She already filed her return and this is the first time that she’s getting refund this much.

I am going to have dinner with Sarah Palin on August 8th, the dinner is $150 a person and I must have the money by Monday. I currently have $100 that I made today from my garage sale. I would like to take my friend for an additional $150, so that would put me at $350 that I need by monday! I know I am way in over my head, but what can I do that ISN’T ONLINE! I have no interest in those online scam get rich quick things. I need cold hard cash in my hand ready to mail at 4:00 p.m. express mail on Monday July 20th.
I am open to any suggestions… my mom said she would give me $100 if I am short… but thats it. I am 16, live in California so I cannot sell my stuff to a Pawn shop until I am 18 and this is for my dads birthday. This means the world to the both of us!
Should I go door to door and ask for donations, then send everyone a personal thank you card with a picture of me and Sarah Palin?

How can I get rid of a junk car without a title?

My van blew a head gasket and it will cost more than it’s worth to fix it. In other words it’s junk and needs to be towed away to a junk yard.
It’s not paid for so the bank still has the title. When I filed a chapter 7 bankruptcy I told them to come pick up the van. Because it’s junk they don’t want it and won’t come get it. Because I don’t have the title I can’t find a junk yard that will tow it.
The bank refuses to give me the title or tow it away. How do I get rid of it?

I purchased a car from a vehicle donation program, the program is under investigation with the attorney general ..the vehicle was sold to me with a regular title …which the program got with a mechanics lean..the ny motor vehicle made me go for an inspection and they are demanding recicpts for the parts which I cannot supply because of the court case,,,..do I have to go for a ny salvaged title inspection when the vehicle already had one in another state ??the dmv in ny is available mon thru thurs with this service

I would like to donate a 14 year old Lexus to a charity. It no longer runs. I do not hold the title. In 2001 I lost my job in California and did not get steady work again for about 2.5 years. Back in 2001 I had a remaining balance of $3200. I was not able to make my payments back then and the bank did not want to repossess the car but instead elected to charge off the car, which was a severe ding on my credit report. The bank which held my auto loan has long been out of business and was bought by another bank. I moved to Texas for steady work in 2004. In considering donating the car to a local charity, will I still have any liability for any kind of payment, or damages if people at the salvage yard get hurt in the vehicle?

The car has parking tickets- not mine. It hasn’t been registered since 2007- never in my name. I could use the space in my yard. I don’t want money, just want to wash my hands of it w/o it getting back to me
