What orgainization would you donate funds to?

28 Apr

We are holding a car show this summer, and would like to donate any proceeds to a charity. Three top ideas we have are Children’s Hospital, St. Jude’s, and the March of Dimes. Which would you pick, and do you have any other ideas?? Thanks for your help!!

Personally, I would pick Children’s hospital. My friends just had their two year old son die of cancer, and they got outstanding care and expertise from the Children’s hospital. It’s an amazing place where amazing things happen to the most amazing people on the planet….our children. Another idea would be to give to a palative care or facility for children such as a place like http://www.canuckplace.org . They’re are too few places like this.

Both St. Jude’s and the March of Dimes are certainly good choices, to me they do have a down side and that is their administrative costs. How much of your contribution would actually go for the purpose you are wanting. I volunteer for and donate to two charities. The first one is Second Harvest an organization which supplies thousands of people with food. Their admin. costs are very minimal and their program is very gratifying. The first choice is St. Vincent De Paul. Although this is a Catholic Charity it is run totally by volunteers. All donations go to buying food (from Second Harvest) and distributing it to the community. It is non-denominational and will help anyone with a need. The Church supplies the building and we supply the labor. I tell everyone I am the token Protestant. The Catholic Charities do wonderful things in all communities for people of all faiths and they do it without fanfare or recognition. Their only aim is to help those in need. I am sure there are other Religious charities that do as much but this is the one I volunteer for. Whoever you donate to check to see how much of your contribution actually ends up in the hands of those who need it instead of in someones pocket. Example the Humane Society of America has a CEO whose salary is over ONE MILLION DOLLARS a year.

Children’s Hospital is always a good bet.
World Vision is where most of my donations go, and they are very strict about not giving money to the rebels or ‘bad’ leaders, more so than many other charities.
It’s great that you are raising money for a cause though, good luck!

All great ideas. Maybe also consider an organization that specifically targets your city/area.

    St. Jude
I live about two hours away from St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis. The hospital is truly amazing. I know that the MOD is a wonderful organization as well. But, I guess I am bias since I know more about St. Jude. But, when it all is said and done, just the fact that you are giving the funds to a charity is awesome. The money will help others and that is what is important.
